🌍 The World Is More Worried Than Excited About AI

A new Pew Research survey across 25 countries reveals that global sentiment around AI skews toward caution. While some countries show growing optimism, the dominant emotion remains uneasy curiosity, equal parts concern and intrigue.

The Shift:

1️⃣ Concern Outpaces Excitement Globally -  A median of 34% of adults are more concerned than excited about AI in daily life, while only 16% feel the opposite. Nations like the U.S., Italy, and Greece show roughly half their populations leaning toward worry.

2️⃣ The Age and Awareness Divide - Younger adults under 35 report higher awareness and optimism, especially in South Korea and Israel, while older populations express stronger resistance.

3️⃣ Trust and Regional Variation - Europe leads in trust, with 53% confidence in the EU’s AI oversight, compared to just 37% in the U.S. and 27% in China. Meanwhile, tech-heavy regions like Sweden and South Korea remain the most positive.

The survey highlights a global trust and literacy gap that will shape how AI adoption unfolds. Marketers, policymakers, and tech builders must recognize that enthusiasm isn’t universal, and success depends on bridging understanding, building transparency, and designing AI experiences that inspire confidence, not apprehension.

🧬 Google’s Gemma Model Just Helped Discover a Cancer Therapy Pathway

Google and Yale scientists used a 27B-parameter Gemma model to discover a new way to make tumors visible to the immune system, and verified it in the lab. This marks one of AI’s most credible breakthroughs in biological research to date.

The Shift:

1️⃣ A Model That Predicts, Then Proves Itself - C2S-Scale analyzed 4,000+ drugs and found silmitasertib acts as a conditional amplifier, boosting immune signaling only in specific environments. Lab results confirmed a 50% increase in antigen presentation, turning previously “invisible” tumors into targets for immune response.

2️⃣ Scaling Unlocked Biological Reasoning - By scaling up to 27B parameters, the Gemma-based model developed the ability to perform context-dependent reasoning. This means it could differentiate how drugs behave across immune environments, a capability smaller models lacked.

3️⃣ From Data Models to Discovery Engines - C2S-Scale wasn’t trained to memorize facts, it generated a novel, testable hypothesis that held up in lab experiments, signalling a turning point for AI in science: models aren’t just supporting research, they’re becoming active collaborators in discovery.

This experiment confirms AI’s potential to reimagine the scientific method, accelerating breakthroughs from drug discovery to complex disease modeling. With Google validating biological hypotheses and OpenAI pushing frontier science with GPT-5, we’re entering an era where machines don’t just analyze, they discover.
