OpenAI launched GPT-Realtime-2, GPT-Realtime-Translate, and GPT-Realtime-Whisper this week, three API voice models bringing GPT-5-class reasoning, live translation across 70-plus languages, and real-time transcription to voice app developers.

The Shift:

Realtime-2 Thinks While It Talks - GPT-Realtime-2 brings GPT-5-level reasoning to live voice and scored 15.2% higher than its predecessor on Big Bench Audio. It calls multiple tools simultaneously while narrating what it is doing out loud.

The Conversation Feels More Natural - The model says things like "let me check that" while working, recovers gracefully instead of failing silently, adjusts tone based on context, and supports a 128K context window up from 32K.

Two More Models Round Out the Toolkit - GPT-Realtime-Translate handles live translation across 70-plus input languages into 13 output languages while keeping pace with the speaker. GPT-Realtime-Whisper transcribes speech live as the speaker talks in real time.

Real Companies Are Already Building on It - Zillow is building a real estate assistant that listens and schedules tours. Priceline is building voice-managed travel with real-time updates. Deutsche Telekom is building multilingual customer support in users' preferred languages.

Developers can select reasoning effort from minimal to xhigh, balancing latency for simple interactions against deeper reasoning for complex ones. Voice is moving from call-and-response to a full interface that can listen, reason, translate, and take action mid-conversation.

Google is relaunching the Fitbit app as Google Health this week, consolidating wearable data, medical records, and an AI coach powered by Gemini into one platform, paired with a new $99 screenless tracker.

The Shift:

Everything in One Place - Google Health consolidates Fitbit, Health Connect, Apple Health, wearable data, and US medical records into a single hub. It connects with hundreds of apps, including Peloton and MyFitnessPal, and rolls out automatically to existing Fitbit users on May 19.

The AI Coach Is the Real Story - Built with Gemini, the Health Coach tailors weekly workout plans, interprets uploaded medical records, identifies food from phone photos, and tracks sleep consistency. Full coach features require a Google Health Premium subscription.

The New Fitbit Air Is Tiny - The $99 Fitbit Air has no screen, weighs just 12 grams, and packs heart rate, oxygen, and temperature sensors for 24/7 wear. It is Google's thinnest tracker yet and feeds body data directly to the AI coach.

It Is Opening Beyond Google Hardware - Apple Watch, Garmin, and Oura owners will get AI coach access later this year. Google is opening the platform to hardware outside its own ecosystem. Google Fit users will also be invited to migrate their data into Google Health later this year.
