A 62-year-old man in India is on dialysis with kidney failure, diabetes, hypertension, and a stroke behind him. Severe migraines every time he lay down to sleep for 25 years. Nobody could explain why until his nephew brought everything to Claude.
The Shift:

🧠 Google Drops Gemma 4 Under Apache 2.0 and Open Source AI Just Got Serious
Google released Gemma 4 in four sizes, built from the same research behind Gemini 3. Over 400 million downloads and 100,000+ community variants later, this is the first release under a fully open Apache 2.0 license.
The Shift:
What is Gemma 4? Google's most capable open model family, from a tiny edge model on Raspberry Pi in under 1.5GB to a 31B ranked #3 globally and 26B at #6, both outcompeting models 20x their size.
What can it do? Natively handles function-calling, structured JSON, vision, audio, and 140+ languages with up to 256K context, built for agentic workflows you can run locally without any cloud dependency.
What else dropped this week? PrismML's Bonsai, built on Caltech research, compresses an 8B model from 14x to 1.15GB, running at 44 tokens/sec on iPhone. Holo3 broke the desktop automation record with 10B parameters and is partly open source on Hugging Face.
What about Trinity? Arcee built a 400B reasoning model with only 13B active at a time by a 30-person US team for $20M, scoring #2 on agentic benchmarks at 96% less cost than Claude Opus 4.6.
