🧠 Global Leaders Unite to Demand a Ban on Superintelligence

A powerful coalition of over 700 global leaders, AI pioneers, and public figures has signed a statement urging governments to ban AI superintelligence until it is proven safe, controllable, and publicly accepted. Led by the Future of Life Institute, the call reflects rising unease about AI systems that could surpass human intelligence within the decade.

The Decode:

1. Diverse global alliance backs AI restraint - Signatories span politics, science, religion, and entertainment, from Yoshua Bengio and Steve Wozniak to Richard Branson, Glenn Beck, and Susan Rice. The group emphasizes that building superintelligent AI without consensus is “unacceptably dangerous and immoral.”

2. Public overwhelmingly supports regulation - The Future of Life Institute reports 64% of Americans want superintelligence halted until proven safe, while 73% favor robust AI regulation. Only 5% support continuing the current unregulated development.

3. Absence of frontier lab leaders raises questions - While industry legends like Bengio and Hinton signed, top executives from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Meta were notably absent.

The statement marks a turning point in the global debate over AI’s future, blending political, scientific, and moral arguments into one message: progress must pause until control is guaranteed. Whether this movement sparks real policy action or remains symbolic will depend on how governments respond to a public now clearly demanding restraint.

🧠 Brave Warns of Deep Security Flaws in AI Browsers

Brave has revealed that several AI browsers, including Perplexity’s Comet and Fellou, face critical vulnerabilities that could allow websites to hijack AI assistants. The report highlights how these issues expose users’ most sensitive accounts, signaling a larger security reckoning for agent-driven browsing.

The Shift:

1. Invisible text can hijack AI systems - Brave found that Comet’s screenshot tool can be exploited through nearly invisible on-page text. When users capture screenshots for AI assistance, the hidden text is read as commands rather than context, letting attackers manipulate the assistant’s actions.

2. Fellou’s navigation system leaks content - In Fellou, simply asking the AI to visit a website sends its visible content to the model, allowing malicious pages to override user intent. The AI assistant can then execute unauthorized actions without any explicit user interaction.

3. Security risk extends to logged-in accounts - Since these AI browsers operate with full user authentication privileges, hijacked assistants could access email, cloud drives, and banking sites. Brave noted that even summarizing a Reddit post could trigger data theft or fund transfers if the post includes hidden malicious text.

Brave warns that these vulnerabilities reveal a systemic flaw in how AI browsers process trusted versus untrusted content. Traditional web protections like the same-origin policy no longer apply when AI agents act on behalf of users across multiple domains. As agentic features like ChatGPT Atlas’s Agent Mode roll out, users face a growing tradeoff between automation and exposure.
