🧩 Prompt of the Day
🤖 China cracks fine motor control in humanoid robots
China’s TARS Robotics publicly demonstrated a humanoid robot stitching with both hands at a live event. This task required extreme precision, stability, and coordination. It represents a significant advancement in embodied AI.

The Shift:
1. Two-handed stitching milestone - The robot threaded a needle and stitched a logo using both hands, handling soft materials with sub-millimeter accuracy. This kind of work has long been seen as impossible for automation.
2. Breaking a key robotics barrier - Ultra-fine manipulation has limited automation in wiring, textiles, and delicate assembly. Overcoming this barrier opens up new industrial tasks that skilled human labor used to perform.
3. Embodied intelligence in action - The robot maintained stability and control throughout the task, demonstrating real-world reliability, not just a lab demonstration. This shows progress in vision, force feedback, and coordinated motion.
4. Skills that generalize - The system is designed to learn transferable physical skills instead of just single tasks. This means the same capabilities can be applied to electronics, manufacturing, and handling soft materials.
Meanwhile, the Chinese firm AgiBot launched the Qingtian Rent platform. This platform rents humanoid robots for weddings, business meetings, concerts, and trade shows in 50 cities. It offers over 1,000 robots, structured pricing, and plans to expand to more than 200 cities by 2026, speeding up the adoption of Robots as a Service.

🧠 OpenAI reopens its preparedness leadership role
OpenAI is hiring a new Head of Preparedness, a senior role overseeing emerging AI risks. CEO Sam Altman said current models are already creating real challenges. He specifically highlighted concerns around mental health and advanced cybersecurity capabilities. The role comes with compensation of $555,000 plus equity.

The Shift:
1. Mental health and real world harm - Altman highlighted the potential impact of AI models on mental health, amid lawsuits alleging ChatGPT reinforced delusions, increased isolation, and contributed to suicide risk.
The role also covers models strong enough to discover critical security vulnerabilities, biological capabilities, and systems that may eventually self improve.
2. Preparedness framework ownership - The Head of Preparedness will execute OpenAI’s framework for tracking frontier capabilities that could cause severe harm. This framework was first introduced in 2023 to study both immediate and catastrophic risks.
The position reopens after the prior preparedness lead was reassigned and other safety leaders exited. OpenAI also noted it may relax safety requirements if competitors release high risk models without similar protections.
As AI rapidly moves into everyday use, safety leadership is becoming an operational role rather than a research project. For businesses and regulators, this means that risk management will increasingly influence how powerful models are released and used.
