🧠How AI Is Quietly Rewiring Consumer Behavior and Commerce

Microsoft’s analysis of 37.5M Copilot conversations reveals that AI is becoming a deeply human tool, shaped by time, device, and emotional context. Shopify’s 150+ updates show the same trend on the business side, with AI shifting from an optional add-on to a foundational infrastructure.

The Decode:

1. Human Patterns - Health questions dominate mobile all day, coding rises on weekdays, gaming takes weekends, and February fills with relationship worries. Late nights bring philosophy. Copilot mirrors real human moods and moments, not just tasks.

2. Usage Shifts - People now ask Copilot for advice, not just answers. Desktop users explore wider topics, while mobile users stay intimate. Conversations shift from technical in January to social by fall, proving AI is spreading from early adopters into everyday life and decisions.

3. Shopify Turns AI Into Commerce Infrastructure  - Shopify is reshaping commerce around how people actually use AI: Sidekick builds workflows from plain language, SimGym stress-tests stores with AI shoppers, and Agentic Storefronts place products directly inside ChatGPT and Copilot, meeting customers where their decisions now start.

Microsoft shows consumers treating AI as ambient support for health, decisions, and personal growth, while Shopify proves businesses are embedding AI into operations from merchandising to product discovery.

TOGETHER WITH THE CODE

Find out why 100K+ engineers read The Code twice a week

Staying behind on tech trends can be a career killer.

But let’s face it, no one has hours to spare every week trying to stay updated.

That’s why over 100,000 engineers at companies like Google, Meta, and Apple read The Code twice a week.

Here’s why it works:

  • No fluff, just signal – Learn the most important tech news delivered in just two short emails.

  • Supercharge your skills – Get access to top research papers and resources that give you an edge in the industry.

  • See the future first – Discover what’s next before it hits the mainstream, so you can lead, not follow.

👨‍💻 AI Editing Moves Into Your Workflow

Figma and Adobe both shipped major updates that push professional editing directly into everyday creative workflows. Figma is bringing Photoshop-like tools into its native canvas, while Adobe is letting ChatGPT operate Photoshop, Acrobat, and Express through simple prompts.

The Shift:

1. Figma’s New AI Object Tools - Figma now offers Erase Object and Isolate Object tools that work with the lasso, letting users instantly delete items or separate subjects from backgrounds for repositioning, removing the need to switch apps for quick retouching.

The new Expand Image feature uses AI to extend photos into new aspect ratios without distortion, while a redesigned editing toolbar centralizes all image-editing actions, mirroring Photoshop-style workflows inside Figma Design and Draw.

2. ChatGPT Gains Photoshop-Level Controls - Adobe now lets ChatGPT run Photoshop, Acrobat, and Express for free, allowing users to edit sections of images, adjust exposure, blur backgrounds, extract tables from PDFs, or redesign graphics using natural-language instructions within one chat.

The integrations support multi-step editing without re-specifying the app, offer UI sliders for fine control, and allow exporting files into native Adobe apps, turning ChatGPT into a conversational creative hub for images, PDFs, and design layouts.

Both updates show the same trajectory: AI is dissolving the boundaries between design tools and the places where work actually happens. Editing is becoming ambient, triggered by intent, not by switching apps, giving creatives faster loops and fewer workflow breaks.
