🤝 Microsoft and OpenAI Just Rewrote the Rules of Their Partnership
Microsoft and OpenAI announced an amended partnership this week, ending Microsoft's exclusivity over OpenAI's IP, removing the AGI clause, and freeing OpenAI to ship products on any cloud while keeping Microsoft as its primary partner.

The Shift:
OpenAI Is No Longer Locked Into Microsoft - OpenAI can now serve products on any cloud, including Amazon Bedrock. Microsoft remains the primary cloud partner with Azure-first launch access through 2032, but OpenAI's exclusivity obligation is officially gone.
The Money Side Changed Too: Microsoft will stop paying OpenAI a revenue share entirely. OpenAI's payments to Microsoft continue through 2030 at the same percentage but with a total cap and tied to calendar dates rather than an AGI milestone, removing a major point of tension.
The Amazon Deal Triggered This - The rework settles Microsoft's reported lawsuit threat over OpenAI's $50 billion Amazon deal that gave AWS exclusive rights to the Frontier platform. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy called the news "very interesting" a pointed comment given the context.
What Stays the Same - Microsoft retains a non-exclusive license to OpenAI IP through 2032 and continues to participate as a major shareholder. Collaboration on datacenter capacity, next-generation silicon, and cybersecurity also continues under the amended terms.
The removal of the AGI clause is the most significant structural change, obligations between the two companies no longer hinge on whether OpenAI declares it has achieved AGI. Both companies frame this as simplifying the partnership. The underlying reality is that OpenAI now has far more freedom to operate independently.

📊 The Workers Gaining the Most From AI Are Also the Most Scared of It
Anthropic published findings from a survey of over 80,000 Claude users this week, revealing a striking pattern: the people AI helps most are also the ones most worried about being replaced by it.

The Shift:
Heavy AI Users Fear Displacement the Most - Workers in the top 25% of AI exposure voiced displacement fears 3x more than those in the bottom 25%. Engineers led the anxiety despite being among the heaviest and most productive users of the technology.
Productivity Gains Come With a Catch - Most respondents said AI benefits show up as faster tasks and expanded scope. But 10% said employers were asking for more work as a result, productivity gains do not always stay with the worker.
Early Career Workers Are the Most Anxious - Only 60% of early-career workers said AI benefits flowed to themselves compared to 80% of senior professionals, backing Anthropic's earlier signal of a hiring slowdown for recent US graduates.
Scope Beats Speed as the Biggest Gain - Scope expansion was the most common productivity benefit cited by 48% of users, with speed improvements second at 40%. High-wage workers reported the largest gains, but low-wage workers also saw meaningful improvements.
The most productive AI users and the most anxious AI users turn out to be the same people. That tension sits at the center of where the workforce conversation is heading, not whether AI helps, but what happens to the people it helps most.
