🤺 OpenAI Just Took a Very Public Shot at Anthropic

OpenAI's CRO Denise Dresser sent an internal memo this week calling out Anthropic directly, accusing the rival of inflating revenue numbers, running short on compute, and building its entire story around fear.

The Shift:

The Platform vs Product Argument - Dresser's core message is that OpenAI needs to act like a platform, not a multi-product company. Multi-product adoption makes switching harder, the real moat in a market where model rankings change weekly.

The Shots at Anthropic - The memo calls Anthropic a single-product company in a platform war and accuses it of inflating its run rate by around $8 billion. It also flags its compute shortage as a strategic misstep throttling user access.

The Messaging War - Dresser wrote that Anthropic's story is built on fear and restriction. OpenAI's counter is its democratic AI narrative, and Dresser believes that a positive message will win over time.

The Microsoft Tension - The memo flagged OpenAI's Microsoft deal as limiting for enterprise growth, pointing to staggering demand for Amazon Bedrock since February's deal as evidence the market wants more than Microsoft alone.

Both companies are reportedly planning to go public this year. An internal memo that pointed out a rival is unusual; it reads less like internal alignment and more like a message OpenAI wanted the market to hear.

🥷How to Generate a Full Character Animation Set With AutoSprite

One image in. A complete sprite sheet out. Here's how it works.

Step 1: Upload your character image - Drop in a single character illustration. That's the only input AutoSprite needs.

Step 2: Generate your moveset - AutoSprite builds the full animation set automatically, walk cycles, idle loops, attack animations, and custom poses. No frame-by-frame drawing, no rigging, no animation experience needed.

Step 3: Add custom poses and cutscenes - Use the built-in cutscene creator to sequence animations. Add any custom pose on demand without touching the original image.

Step 4: Clean up the background - Run the built-in background remover to isolate your character before export. No third-party tool needed.

Step 5: Export directly into your engine - Download the sprite sheet and drop it straight into Unity, Godot, GameMaker, Phaser, or RPG Maker. No conversion, no reformatting.

What used to take weeks of frame-by-frame work now takes seconds. For solo devs and small studios, the hardest part of 2D game development just became the easiest. You can try AutoSprite free here.

📊 Stanford's 2026 AI Index Is Out, and the Numbers Are Uncomfortable

Stanford HAI released its annual AI Index this week, showing a technology that has reached over half the world's population faster than the PC or internet, but with public trust at record lows and entry-level jobs already disappearing.

The Shift:

The Expert vs Public Trust Gap - Nearly 75% of AI experts are optimistic about the technology's impact on jobs. Only 23% of the public agrees. That is the widest gap the report has ever tracked between the people building AI and the people living with it.

The US Builds It But Does Not Use It - The US produces most of the world's AI but ranks just 24th in actual adoption at 28.3%, sitting behind Singapore, the UAE, and most of Southeast Asia. Building the technology and benefiting from it are clearly two different things.

China Is Closing the Gap Fast - China has nearly erased the US lead on AI benchmarks, with Anthropic's top model now ahead by just 2.7%. At the same time, AI researchers moving to the US dropped 89%, a significant signal about where talent is heading.

Entry-Level Jobs Are Already Going - Developer employment for ages 22 to 25 fell nearly 20% since 2024, even as headcounts for older engineers grew. Firm surveys indicate planned cuts to entry-level roles will accelerate, making this the clearest sign yet that AI displacement is not a future concern, it is already happening.

The gap between how experts and the public see AI is the most important number in this report. One group is building the future. The other is already living the consequences.
