Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.6, a major upgrade focused on long-running, real-world work. The update expands Claude from a single assistant into a system that can reason longer, coordinate tasks, and work directly inside everyday tools.

The Shift:
1. Agent Teams Go Parallel - Claude Code now supports agent teams, where multiple AI agents split a project and work simultaneously, speeding up large, read-heavy tasks like codebase reviews that previously ran step by step.
Opus 4.6 brings a 1M token context window to Anthropic’s top model for the first time, allowing Claude to handle massive documents and codebases with less context loss and better long-term reasoning.
2. Native Excel and PowerPoint - Claude now works inside Excel and PowerPoint sidebars, reading existing templates and layouts. Users can build models or decks directly, without copying data between tools or breaking workflows.
Opus 4.6 tops most agentic benchmarks, including major gains on ARC-AGI-2 and GDPval. Anthropic says these capability gains come with safety results as strong as, or better than, prior frontier models.
Claude Opus 4.6 signals a shift from single-agent AI toward coordinated, long-context systems. As AI starts working in parallel and inside core tools, productivity gains increasingly come from orchestration, not just raw intelligence.
