OpenAI has launched GPT-5.1-Codex-Max, its most advanced agentic coding model built to handle multi-hour tasks through a new compaction system. The model is now live in Codex for Plus Pro and Enterprise users, with API access coming soon.
The Shift:
1. Frontier Coding Upgrade - Codex-Max outperforms previous versions with 79.9% accuracy on SWE-Lancer and Windows-native training for real engineering workflows. It handles PR creation code, review, frontend, builds, and debugging with higher reliability. The model is trained on real software tasks for more consistent collaboration.
2. Faster Reasoning With Fewer Tokens - Max uses roughly 30% fewer thinking tokens than GPT-5.1-Codex while producing deeper reasoning outputs. Medium reasoning remains the daily driver, but Extra High extends thinking time for hard problems, reducing cost while improving code quality and stability.
3. Compaction Powers 24-Hour Sessions - A new compaction system lets the model prune history and continue working across millions of tokens without breaking context. Max can autonomously refactor repos, fix tests, and iterate for more than 24 hours.
4. Safety and Secure Deployment - Codex-Max improves long-horizon cybersecurity performance and ships with sandboxed execution, restricted file writes, and no network access by default. OpenAI routes suspicious activity through policy monitoring and maintains dedicated cyber safeguards.
GPT-5.1-Codex-Max pushes agentic coding into true long-horizon territory, delivering reliable multi-hour workflows and major efficiency gains. Teams can now automate refactoring, debugging, and multi-step builds with fewer tokens and better reasoning. 🟡 Meta Releases SAM 3D for Real-World 3D Reconstruction
Meta introduced SAM 3D alongside SAM 3 and a new Segment Anything Playground giving everyone access to state-of-the-art 3D reconstruction from single real-world images. The release includes SAM 3D Objects for scene and object reconstruction and SAM 3D Body for accurate human pose and shape modeling.
The Shift:
1. SAM 3D Objects - SAM 3D Objects reconstructs full 3D shapes, textures, and scene layouts from a single real-world image using a data engine with 1M images and 3.14M human-ranked meshes and achieves at least a 5:1 win rate over prior models.
2. SAM 3D Body - SAM 3D Body estimates precise 3D human pose and shape using the new Meta Momentum Human Rig trained on 8M diverse human images and remains robust to occlusions, rare postures, and varied clothing.
3. Segment Anything Playground - The Segment Anything Playground lets anyone upload images, segment objects or humans, and instantly generate 3D reconstructions using SAM 3 and SAM 3D with open model weights and inference tools.
4. Product Deployment - SAM 3D and SAM 3 power Facebook Marketplace’s View in Room, allowing users to preview home décor in their space, with upcoming integrations planned for creation apps like Edits and Vibes.
