Perplexity has introduced Personal Computer, a new AI system designed to turn a Mac into a persistent AI agent capable of executing tasks across applications and online services.
The Shift:
1. A Persistent AI Agent for Your Machine - Personal Computer runs as software installed on a Mac, giving Perplexity’s Comet assistant continuous access to local files, applications, and browser sessions. Users assign objectives, and the system automatically manages the steps required.
2. Multi-Model System Handles Complex Tasks - The platform coordinates roughly twenty AI models, including specialized Claude variants. These models analyze instructions, break them into smaller subtasks, and execute them asynchronously until the objective is completed.
3. Deep Integrations Across Apps and Team Workflows - The system connects with more than 400 applications and services, including Gmail, GitHub, Notion, and Slack. Enterprise deployments allow teams to integrate the AI agent directly into collaboration workflows.
4. Early Access Rolling Out to Initial Users - Perplexity is releasing Personal Computer through a waitlist, with Perplexity Max subscribers receiving early access. The company says it will provide support and resources to the first cohort of users. Join the waitlist here.

🤖 Musk Reveals Tesla xAI Macrohard System
Elon Musk has revealed new details about Macrohard, an AI initiative linking Tesla and xAI that aims to build a real-time digital agent capable of operating software environments autonomously.
The Shift:
1. Grok Guides While Digital Optimus Acts - The architecture splits intelligence and execution into two layers. Grok handles reasoning and navigation while the Digital Optimus agent processes recent screen activity and user inputs to perform actions inside applications.
The execution layer analyzes live screen video and interaction signals, using concepts similar to Tesla’s Full Self Driving perception stack, allowing the AI to interpret digital environments and respond in real time.
2. Hardware Designed for Cost-Efficient AI Execution - Musk says the system will run primarily on Tesla’s AI4 chip, costing roughly $650, while xAI Nvidia infrastructure supports heavier computation tasks in the background.
The announcement followed reports that more than twenty Macrohard engineers had left or moved roles and that a large internal data initiative had paused. xAI has also experienced a wave of departures recently, including several co-founders.
By combining Grok’s reasoning with a real-time execution agent, the project aims to create software capable of handling large operational tasks. Musk even suggests the architecture could eventually emulate the functions of entire companies.
