🤖 AI-Driven Cyberattacks Hit a New Level

Anthropic uncovered a September operation where Claude Code was used to automate most stages of a cyber-espionage campaign against roughly 30 tech, finance, chemical, and government organizations. Anthropic confirmed the attack was carried out by a Chinese state-sponsored group using agentic AI at an unprecedented scale.

The Shift:

1. Autonomous Attack Execution - Hackers disguised malicious steps as harmless tasks and convinced Claude it was doing legitimate security work, enabling it to map networks, write exploits, steal credentials, and exfiltrate data almost entirely on its own.

2. Speed and Scale Unmatched by Humans - Claude fired thousands of requests per second to scan systems, identify vulnerabilities, extract sensitive information from four victims, and generate full attack documentation with only a few human confirmations.

3. Agentic AI Lowers Barriers to Cyberattacks - This campaign shows frontier models can now run multi-stage intrusions with minimal skill or oversight, echoing Google’s findings of Russian groups using LLMs for malware commands and making advanced attack capabilities more accessible.

4. Cybersecurity Must Adapt to AI Agents - Anthropic says defenses must rapidly evolve because the same agentic abilities enabling these attacks also allow defensive AIs to automate SOC tasks, analyze huge logs, and respond faster than human teams alone.

🛍️ Google Levels Up AI Shopping

Google announced a major upgrade to its AI shopping tools across Search and the Gemini app. The update adds conversational shopping, agentic checkout, and an AI that can call stores to check stock and pricing. Google says the goal is to keep the fun parts of shopping while removing the tedious steps that slow people down. 

The Shift:

1. Conversational Shopping - AI Mode now lets users describe what they want in natural language, returning visuals, comparisons, prices, and reviews instantly. The system pulls from Google’s 50 billion–item Shopping Graph, refreshed billions of times per hour. 

2. Gemini Shopping Tools - Gemini now gives full shopping ideas instead of plain text suggestions, turning vague intent into clear product options, using the same Shopping Graph, so results stay fresh and accurate. The rollout is U.S. only for now.

3. Agentic Checkout - Users can track price drops and have Google purchase the item automatically once it meets their budget. The system confirms size, color, and shipping before completing the checkout with Google Pay.

4. AI Calling Stores – “Let Google Call” uses Duplex to phone local stores, check availability and promotions, and return a full summary via text or email. Merchants can opt out, but the AI is designed to ask clear, structured questions. 

Google is positioning AI as the layer that handles every tedious part of shopping, from search to comparison to checkout. This keeps more of the buying journey inside Google’s ecosystem while reducing friction for shoppers.
