🧠 UAE Goes All-In on ChatGPT Access

OpenAI and the UAE just launched Stargate UAE, a first-of-its-kind national AI infrastructure project. Alongside it, the UAE will give every citizen free access to ChatGPT Plus, making it the first country in the world to provide premium AI tools at scale.

The Shift:

1. Free ChatGPT Plus for All - Every UAE resident will receive a ChatGPT Plus subscription, removing the $20/month barrier to advanced AI, making the UAE the first country to deliver universal access to frontier AI.

2. Dual Investment, Dual Strategy - The UAE isn’t just building Stargate, it’s also investing in U.S. infrastructure, reinforcing the U.S.-UAE tech alliance. The partnership includes Oracle, NVIDIA, Cisco, and SoftBank, in close coordination with the U.S. government.

3. Stargate Goes Global - The Abu Dhabi-based Stargate will be a 1GW AI compute hub, with 200MW live by 2026. Designed to reach half the world’s population, it brings OpenAI’s frontier infrastructure to the global stage.

4. “OpenAI for Countries” Begins Here - Stargate UAE kicks off OpenAI’s new initiative to help 10+ nations build sovereign AI systems. A global roadshow starts next week, signaling OpenAI’s intent to shape national AI infrastructure everywhere.

This isn’t just a tech deal, it’s a geopolitical shift. The UAE is rewriting what it means to be AI-first, arming its population with advanced tools while building compute that serves half the planet. And it signals a new era where nations don’t just regulate AI, they help build it.

🧠 UBS Clones Analysts With AI

UBS is deploying AI-generated video avatars of its analysts using Synthesia and OpenAI models. Designed to speed up research distribution and cater to client demand for video content, the initiative blends automation with personalization.

The Shift:

1. From Reports to Avatars - UBS analysts opt into the program by recording their voice and likeness in a studio. AI then converts their written research into scripts, which the avatar delivers in video format, allowing analysts to scale their presence without being on camera each time.

2. Scaling Video Without the Studio Bottleneck - UBS publishes 50,000 research docs annually, but previously capped video production at 1,000 due to studio limits. With avatars, they aim to hit 5,000 videos per year, 5Ă— the current output.

3. Accent Challenges and Human Safeguards - Some rollouts were paused due to avatar struggles with accents, which risked “flattening” personality. All avatar use is opt-in, with HR approval and final analyst sign-off required for distribution. Each video is labeled as AI-generated to ensure transparency.

4. Market Forces Driving the Shift -  UBS says clients increasingly expect video-first formats, much like TikTok or YouTube viewers. The bank views this as an efficiency play, saving analyst time while meeting rising engagement expectations.

In multilingual markets like Switzerland, these avatars eliminate the need to create content in four separate languages, saving time, costs, and friction. But as AI-generated personalities become more lifelike, the line between trusted expert and synthetic speaker gets blurrier.
